There are lots of badgers in Hob Hey Wood but these shy animals are rarely encountered.
After seeing some trail cam videos from Andy Harmer on the Cheshire and Wirral wildlife Facebook page, and getting some information from Andy, I decided to buy a trail cam. myself.
We set up the camera in the evening and collected it the next day. We saw immediately that we'd collected quite a few videos and the first badger appeared only a few minutes after setting up the camera!
The camera records in infra-red (as well as visible) so despite the almost pitch black conditions, the badgers showed up well, going about their business, completely unaware of the the camera recording their every move.
The camera wasn't too expensive (£42). Anyone who is interested can find the camera at:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07FDF5JRY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you do buy one, be aware that it does not come with the SD card and 4 AA batteries that it needs.
Watching the videos of badgers recorded whilst we were asleep was fascinating. It just goes to show what can be found in our little wood when we're safely tucked up in bed!
