Hob Hey Wood: Frodsham's Ancient Woodland

Nestled in a small valley created by a stream, Hob Hey Wood is Frodsham's very own ancient woodland. It is an extremely important, increasingly rare habitat in Britain, yet contains a diverse and fascinating variety of wildlife: trees; mammals; birds; flowers; fungi; invertebrates and much more. It is also an important asset for the people of Frodsham. Its location in a valley away from the town makes it a place of peace and quiet, remote from traffic and other human-created noises. Peaceful walks, quiet contemplation, forest bathing, dog walking and wildlife watching are all enjoyed by an increasing number of the town's residents.

This section of the website chronicles the history of the woodland, explains exactly what 'ancient woodland' is, and describes much of the wood's flora and fauna and how and when to see it.
