Sunday 16th September saw the latest volunteer day in Hob Hey Wood.
You can see some of the results in the picture to the left; a 'dead hedge' designed to block access to a steep bank and prevent erosion. Other dead hedges were put up by the volunteers (Chieffy the dog wasn't present on the day, he'd have been a SERIOUS health and safety hazard! We took this picture the day after.)
The day was well attended, rainy at times, hard work, but I think we all enjoyed ourselves (I did!).
Spending the day in the wood, we met lots of visitors. It is evident that Hob Hey Wood is well utilised by the local people. Hopefully, the friends group can continue to make improvements and make the wood even better for visitors and wildlife.
You can see some work in progress here. One of the volunteers using a wicked tool, called a billhook to sharpen one of the stakes to use as a post for the hedge.
There's lots more work to do, in line with the five year management plan so hopefully, visitors will see the environment improving over time.
Our next volunteer day is 14th October. Why not come along and get involved. Have a look at our Facebook page for more details or contact us using the 'Contact us' page.
